Dr. Melissa Appleyard received her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and her B.A. in Economics/International Area Studies from UCLA.
Dr. Appleyard will join the faculty of the School of Business as an Associate Professor from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia.
As a research fellow funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Dr. Appleyard has conducted research in the arenas of technology and innovation management, and business policy and strategy. Her research in these areas has been published in leading academic journals including the Strategic Management Journal, Industrial Relations, and California Management Review. Dr. Appleyard has worked with a variety of business organizations resulting in 16 business cases.
Dr. Appleyard is one of two recipients of the Ames Professorship in the Management of Innovation and Technology. The Ames Professorship was endowed though a generous donation from PSU alumni Gary and Barbara Ames. Gary, a former President and CEO of US West Communications and MediaOne International, and Barbara Ames are dedicated to higher education and are leading supporters of PSU’s School of Business. The Ames Family Foundation has made several gifts to PSU including the Ames Scholarship Fund.
