Leading Accounting Ethicist Jesse Dillard, Ph.D. Joins School of Business Faculty

Jesse Dillard, Ph.D., a leading scholar in the field of accounting ethics and the public interest, has joined the accounting faculty of the School of Business at Portland State University. He begins Fall term 2003 as Professor of Accounting.

Dr. Dillard, founder and editor of the prestigious journal Accounting and the Public Interest, most recently served as the KPMG Professor of Accounting at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. He served as KPMG Professor of Accounting at the University of New Mexico from 1991 to 2000, and as Chair of the Accounting Department there from 1991-96 and 1997-2000. Dr. Dillard has also taught at the University of Paris, Ohio State University and the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Dillard’s teaching specialty is managerial accounting. His research, which spans 25 years and includes more than 100 published articles, books and reviews, has focused on a behavioral analysis of accounting practices, with specific emphasis on ethical structures and information systems in accounting. He has been a frequent research collaborator with Kristi Yuthas, Ph.D., who holds the Swigert Professorship of Information Systems. She teaches accounting information systems at Portland State and is currently a visiting professor at American University in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Dillard’s appointment is a key component of the School’s Accounting and the Public Interest Initiative, which seeks to build on the School’s outstanding reputation for accounting education and research. Not only will Dr. Dillard edit his journal from the School of Business at Portland State, but he will be instrumental in the development of the proposed Accounting and the Public Interest Research Center, dedicated to enhancing research and dialogue around issues of ethics and accounting practices.

Dr. Dillard holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Science in Management from Clemson University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial management, also from Clemson University.
