(Portland, OR - September 30, 2005) Portland State University joined top schools University of Michigan and Stanford University as one of the most innovative, student success-driven undergraduate programs in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report’s “2006 Programs to Look For.”

The report, which compiled responses from university presidents, provosts, and deans of admissions, identified the U.S. public and private universities and colleges that were most often cited by educators as “stellar” programs for their emphasis on eight key characteristics that lead to student success.  Of the eight categories, Portland State was listed in five – first-year experience, internships/co-ops, senior capstone, learning communities, and service learning.

Portland State was one of only three public universities in the U.S. to be recognized in five of the eight characteristics, along with University of Michigan and University of Maryland, and the only West Coast university besides Stanford to be recognized. No other public U.S. university was named in more than five characteristics.
