The Business Outreach Program (BOP) assists in developing and growing small businesses in the Portland metropolitan area. Most commonly, the BOP serves minorities, women, and emerging small businesses. Businesses with up to ten employees and revenues of $50,000 to $1,000,000 constitute our client base. Potential client's needs are assessed during an intake interview to determine the feasibility and nature of assistance to be provided. Clients receive an individual counselor to aid in developing their business. Additionally, a student team of Portland State University Students may be assigned to provide focused research and recommendations to the client. The BOP commits to long-term relationships
with clients to serve the evolving needs of their businesses.
Typically, a client's initial goals require more assistance than their
later operating issues. When future changes and challenges occur, the
BOP remains available to assist its clients. The Business Outreach Program (BOP) requires clients to express and demonstrate commitment to their business' success. Clients are chosen according to their individual needs and the BOP's ability to assist specifically in those areas. Additionally, the client's business should add value to the profile of the BOP's client base and the Portland area business community.
